Life Stuff

Thanks to God!

Thanksgiving is approaching and so are the moments of making memories with family you may have not seen since last year, the few days off work, and all the glorious food that our happy bellies will chow down on. It is definitely a time to indulge and relax- if you can. I like the anticipation of the next holiday to come, yes, Christmas. I guess it stems from when I was a child and recalling all the get to togethers, the time off school and hanging with friends, and just knowing that there was something else to look forward to.

As I have put on some years, I have now realized there is more substance to these holidays. The loss of loved ones makes it feel very blurred- add in that throat lump void, but then the gaining of new life puts a whole different spin on the occasion. I also felt as a kid the holiday seasons were a rush. We went here or there and one time we went to China. Yes, China. It was a great experience at sixteen years old and one I’m thankful for. When I reached adult status with my own family, I became more slowed down. I didn’t want to have to come and go all the time. It was my turn to do it my way and for the most part it is pretty relaxed. However there are memories that come flooding in of a time long gone, and I won’t that lie that crap is still hard.

During this time, make it a point to ponder on what you hold dear to your heart. Write down your many blessings and the things you are thankful for. I don’t care if you’re thankful for a water bill. Seriously, this list can get long. I’m thankful for the good and bad times. I thankful for my hair! I’m thankful for being able to move, talk, hear, see. My job and experiences have taught more than just being happy to have this and that in a material sense. Our world is a jacked up mess, people and things are here today, gone tomorrow. So spend this last month or so having all the fun and love you can share. Take lots of pictures, sing, dance, play, start a new tradition maybe. I hope whatever you do, you give thanks to God for providing you with the means to do so and to share your life with family and friends.

My best to you and your journey!
