State of Mind: Peace
I am sort of a loner by nature. I don’t depend on things and people to bring me happiness and contentment. It does not mean that I don’t enjoy what I have and the great people in my life, if anything they add laughter, a shoulder and best yet, memories. But even those close to me understand that I need time for me. Time for resting this weary mind and finding my footing in the everyday quicksand life can bring.
I’m sitting on my porch as I write this, and this is one place I can be free. My plants are in view along with the melodies of the birds flying about, especially the motor hum of the delicate Hummimgbird at his feeder beside me. I think of Henry David Thoreau when he said , “ If nature is our Mother, then God is our Father.” That truly speaks to me. There’s peace in nature and in God, you can’t have one without the other. They work simultaneously, teaching us the fundamentals of life, they way the world goes round, and how to absorb it all with immense gratitude.
Do you have that special place you can find rest? It may not be your porch, it may be a park, a library, a Bible study, your garden, or a hobby. It makes no never mind what it is, as long as it takes the weight off your shoulders, heightens your awareness of things you need that bring tranquility to your whole existence. I encourage you to get out in the sunshine and do something. If it rains, dance in it. You see a babbling creek on a walk or hike, stop and meditate on that scene. This may sound crazy, but birdwatching and learning of what species and habitats is an excellent way to get out in nature. Peace is all around us, you just have to make it yours. Now go in peace.
