Life Stuff

Free Yourself

The big holiday is approaching with its full onset of aromatic cookouts, cool dips in the pools, backyard corn hole competitions, and the illuminating spectacular that will dominate the night sky. The time families and friends invite each other for the festivities and just the company of enjoying the day together. This time takes me back to growing up and although I don’t celebrate like I used to, hearing everyone around me brings the nostalgia and that makes me happy.

Some of us may not have the family and friends circle to go out and see the fireworks or eat the smorgasbord of charbroiled meats and juicy watermelon. I say you don’t have to. There is no written rule that anyone has to participate to be patriotic or have a good time doing all those things. I love traditions, don’t get me wrong, but not everyone has them. And like all things life traditions change for many, including yours truly.

As you know by now, I’m quite happy with peace and quiet. I’m not a crowd person, nor am I joiner for all festive events. I choose how I spend my time, mostly. I do things with my family but no, I don’t have all that once surrounded me. Most of my family is gone and my mom and daughter have their own lives as well as myself. I have to be okay with that as it frees my mind. It frees me from thinking I to have plan all the time, go here or there, make this or that. I value the times we do get to see each other, as they far and in between, and it makes it most meaningful.

If you feel any holiday or any given event makes you feel obligated or worn down, simply speak up. If an appearance is requested and you don’t mind , then go but have your way out. Maybe you don’t want a lot of company or none it all, speak up. I’m all for personal freedom and making sure my own well being is first. I’m happy with a book or movie, hearing the fireworks outside the window. I’m not opposition for anyone else to go do as they please. Freedom is priceless. As troops have fought for ours, and the countless global wars for thousands of years, then we can fight for our freedom to just be free from all weights and chains that hold us down. And that, my friend, is God given!

My best to you and your journey!
